THEY GO TO DIE is a documentary by epidemiologist and film maker Jonathan Smith, which gives a powerful and candid insight into the lives of South African miners who have contracted TB.
Not every public health disaster can be described in numbers. From its beginning, They Go to Die has been more than just a documentary on tuberculosis and HIV in the mining industry. It has been a movement of understanding, compassion, and family. Stepping away from the discussion of disease, our goal is to show this complex issue in the broader context of life, family, and relationships.
Working with Jonathan Smith I created a set of three film posters, which attempt to capture some of the beauty, drama, intensity, and ultimately hope which the film portrays.
