Very excited to see my pattern design ‘Horror Vacui’ in the Threadless Select Winter Collection.
'The Caithness writer Neil Gunn in his wonderful essay Highland Spaces talks of the horror vacui, a fear of the void, vacant places and sterile distances that can afflict visitors from the labyrinth [cities] of the south'
-extract from The Architecture of Doubt, by Neil Gillespie.
Horror Vacui in visual art is the act of filling every space with detail- fearing the empty. Here I’ve tried to combine the horror vacui of the huge open landscapes in the Scottish Highlands with the fear of leaving open space in the art- every corner is filled with detail.
